Hallowe’en has arrived a little early this year!
These rather grisly bodies are actually minuscule, so unlikely to do anything more than make flesh creep......these wingless wonders of lacemaking lunacy were inclined to writhe and wave their antennae in mocking defiance of the photo shoot that will herald their fame. In glorious technicolour, they pose and, if you look closely, you can even see them pouting their sulks in full supermodel mode.
Q: Why the sulks?
A: Well, when it comes to the main picture, one might say ‘the reality of life’, it is not their bodies that will win the admiration - it will be their wings, in all their glory, that will be basking in the spotlight, centre stage.
In ‘real life’, the bodies are worked in Blue Smoke*, a colour that works with all the wing colours selected, though unfortunately doesn’t show up too well when photographed against the dark background which displays their wings to the best advantage. Hence the reason why the bodies, (shown here in the larger photo) have been worked separately, using colours that relate to the relevant butterfly and show the working method as clearly as possible. Naturally, these prima-donnas are truly mortified by the horrific idea that their bodies are not the stars of the show!
There is one more butterfly, waiting in its wings, that hasn’t made the cut. This butterfly ‘Cinderella’ will have her fleeting moment of fame next month......
*Piper’s Floss Silk.
All the finished butterflies (smaller photo) are worked using the colour Blue Smoke for their bodies and antennae.
