The testing of the Butterfly patterns continues......
This is the, as yet unfinished, Butterfly 6 which is ‘just’ missing a section of lower wing!
Testing the Butterfly and the Seasonal Reflections patterns has worked out rather conveniently as by working one section, and at the same time, making and adjusting notes, then working the opposing section from the reversed notes has meant that if I can’t make sense of my own scribblings, then no-one else is likely to either. Thus, the testing process has been speeded up considerably, in spite of the poor brain cell tying itself into knots!
So what happens then, you must be wondering, to all those other patterns that aren’t worked in reverse?
Well...many hours are spent going through all the notes examining their pin by pin instructions, comparing them with the pattern pricking and its working diagrams. Essentially then, I’m actually working the pattern in my head. The words are chosen to be as simple, and translatable, as it is possible to make them. They are revised, if necessary, to render them as unambiguous as possible. Perfection is strived for, but not always achieved to make sense for everyone.
When designing, drawing an image, or painting a picture, viewing it upside down or in a mirror can throw up design and colour faults. With lacemaking instructions there is no such quick and easy method of checking, it is slow and labour intensive, and so the testing goes on with fingers crossed that nothing had been missed and the meaning of every word being crystal clear to everyone of all levels of experience.
An impossible task? Hopefully not.
So for those wonderers hoping for information about the long promised patterns that I’ve been wittering about and working on for the last 18 months, they are in the pipeline.
The first release, ‘Seasonal Reflections’, from a related series is getting ever more imminent......it’s just the usual problem of trying to squeeze the quart into a pint pot!
