The Seasonal Flights of Fancy......Now Cleared for take-Off!
The Seasonal Flights of Fancy......Now Cleared for take-Off!

Having finished my Seasonal Reflections......there has been much note writing and diagram drawing, and as is usual when finishing a group of patterns, other ideas start to hassle and jostle the poor beleaguered brain cell for a favourable position in the queue. A problem arises when, in drawing up the diagrams, an idea, so insistent that it becomes impossible to ignore, pushes past the elastic boundaries of sanity......and thus the queue lengthens, albeit temporarily.
So, since it’s almost Springtime, (although snow/sleet/rain is forecast today) by way of a little light relief from the dotting of dots and labelling of diagrams, I have treated my crossed eyes to the luxury of working some Seasonal Flights of Fancy.
These particular ideas came screaming off the pillow to me as I was working on the Reflections, the shapes just offering themselves up to be rearranged and morphed into fantastical butterflies. Yet still they are worked to the original instructions given for the Reflections, but using different colours and finer thread to suit the smaller scale (though they could, of course, be worked to the same scale as the Reflections).
This small butterfly (illustrated above, width 1 3/4”) is worked using Piper’s Floss Silks, this same scale used for the original Leverets pattern*. This particular silk has the most amazingly intense colours and shine, so is absolutely ideal for the shimmering of butterfly wings!
But what of the notes for the Hares**, the Leverets*, the Seasonal Reflections* and now the Flights of Fancy*, you might well be wondering? Are they, and will the remain a figment of my imagination?? No, fret not, they are in the convoluted pipeline where the brain cell resides......and their time has come!
All of these patterns are so inter-linked that they will be best assembled and given their booklet homes at one and the same time......and, in order to keep me sane, and my fingers twitching, I’ll be working on the (five, so far...) Flights of Fancy.
*These patterns may be worked in either of two scales:
The smaller scale is worked using Piper’s Silk Floss, the larger scale is worked using Piper’s 80/3 Spun Silk and 90/3 Gloss Silk.
**The patterns for the Hares series are worked using Piper’s 80/3 Spun Silk and 90/3 Gloss Silk.
