Reflections in Mind......Again?!
Reflections in Mind......Again?!

Ah...but these are reflections of an entirely different nature!
Last week we joined our younger daughter* and husband in celebration, at the Degree Ceremony being held in the City of Birmingham’s Symphony Hall. The stunning central atrium (pictured above left), seemed to me to be not so very dissimilar from the workings of a lace designer’s mind in full flow. A myriad of angles creating shapes within shapes, all with a working logic to create the whole, without risk of it falling apart when the pins are removed!
Indeed, it could easily, well, maybe not ‘quite’ so easily, lend itself to a lace design......
No, it’s not likely to be one of mine, I prefer to design using curves, even though the threads may be pulled straight under tension to create the curves. This geometric construction with its fluid reflections creates the most amazing space, so it is more likely that I would use the reflections as a basis for a design.
This atrium also provides a ‘walk through’ area, connecting one part of the city to the Birmingham Canal beyond.
Beyond, by the canal, there is a fascinating architectural mix of old and new buildings reflected in its waters (pictured above right), which in turn relate back to the organic reflections within the walkway. What a fantastic silken fabric print they might make! A designer’s dream for inspiration, always changing, always moving.
